After a brief run on the Hollywood scene and away from the Octagon, UFC strawweight Paige VanZant admits she has an interest in someday becoming a part of the WWE Universe.
VanZant makes her return to the Octagon at UFC on FOX 21 Saturday to face Bec Rawlings, just a few months removed from reportedly being contacted by the top professional wrestling company on the planet.
“I believe they [WWE] reached out to my management,” VanZant told the media recently (via FloCombat). “That’d be something I’d love to eventually venture into. I’ve always been a big fan of the WWE. They’re a huge organization and a very successful organization. It’d be great. There have been lots of successful crossovers from Brock Lesnar going back and forth and now CM Punk coming over, it seems like a successful match up and it seems like I would fit really well in that area.”
Owning a 3-1 record inside the Octagon prior to her return Saturday, VanZant spent a good part of the last nine months on “Dancing with the Stars,” taking second place on the popular televised dance competition. The brief run on the mainstream scene elevated her status as one of the more recognizable UFC fighters on the planet.
While fellow UFC star Conor McGregor isn’t fond of those who call the squared circle home, VanZant says she has an admiration for the talent that frequents the WWE locker room.
“I am a fan and I’ve always been a fan,” VanZant said. “I think it’s a really cool sport and to see how athletic they have to be from some of the stuff they do it’s really cool.”
