Goldberg vs Lesnar official for Survivor Series

It’s official: Goldberg will be making a long-awaited return to professional wrestling in a match against Brock Lesnar at WWE Survivor Series on Nov. 20.

WWE announced the match on Twitter Tuesday afternoon, just one day after Lesnar took to the WWE ring to respond to Goldberg’s callout on the Oct. 17 episode of Raw.

Confirmation of the match comes after months of rumor and speculation that the 49-year-old retired wrestler would be making a comeback into the squared circle to face one of the most popular Superstars WWE has to offer in 2016.

Goldberg, most famous for his work with now-defunct WCW in the late ’90s and early 2000s, last stepped into the WWE ring at WrestleMania XX in 2004 against Lesnar. While it was once considered a dream match between two of the industry’s more formidable stars, Lesnar vs. Goldberg was met with widespread criticism from the WWE fanbase as they were privy to the fact that both Lesnar and Goldberg were departing from WWE immediately after their match.

Save for a one-time appearance at Legends of Wrestling in 2015, Goldberg stayed away from the industry.

Lesnar took his talents for a brief, unsuccessful stint in the National Football League before spending some time with New Japan Pro Wrestling from 2005-07. In 2008, Lesnar embarked on a career inside the Octagon with the UFC. He went on to become UFC heavyweight champion that same year — just four fights into his professional career in mixed martial arts.

“The Beast Incarnate” eventually made his way back to Vince McMahon’s wrestling company in April 2012, retaking his spot as one of the more popular names in the industry.
