The countdown can now officially begin as fans await the return of former WWE Universal Champion Finn Bálor, as the popular Superstar has undergone successful shoulder surgery.
Bálor suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder at SummerSlam Sunday, during a match that saw him become the WWE’s first ever Universal Champion. He was forced to relinquish the title less than 24 hours later.
“Finn’s injury was pretty severe, more severe than normal. A really high energy injury, it did more damage than a standard shoulder dislocation where you simply tear the labrum. The prognosis is excellent, however,” Dr. Jeffrey Dugas told WWE.com. “We were able to fix it all and put it back where it came from. I’m anticipating him getting back at full speed.”
The injury occurred after being on the receiving end of a powerbomb that launched Bálor on the barricade. He can be seen attempting to adjust his shoulder back into place during the match.
“He hit the wall during the match, dislocated his shoulder and was able to put it back in himself in a split second,” said ringside physician Dr. Chris Robinson.
Bálor will now be out anywhere from four to six months, depending on how well his recovery goes and where he fits in WWE’s plans at the time of his full recovery.
The Irish Superstar had only made his WWE debut a few weeks prior, joining the main roster as one of a handful of wrestlers called up from NXT during the brand split draft.
