On a night when he finally scaled the mountain of professional wrestling, Finn Bálor had it all taken away from him. The former NXT Superstar has officially vacated the WWE Universal Championship just one day after winning it due to a shoulder injury.
Unbeknownst to the casual viewer, Bálor apparently dislocated his shoulder after taking the powerbomb on the apron from Seth Rollins and popped it back in. It is not entirely clear how long the injury will keep Bálor out of action, but the decision to vacate the title may indicate a lengthy layoff.

In what many considered to be a dream match-up, Bálor faced Seth Rollins to crown the first-ever Universal Champion at the company’s second-biggest event, SummerSlam. Over-shadowing the match was the level of heat the unveiling of the title drew, causing many in Brooklyn to boo, despite a high-quality match between two of the company’s premier workers.
The boos caused Rollins to unleash an uncharacteristic tweet targeted at the Brooklyn crowd in which he expressed disappointment for letting the appearance of the belt overshadow the match:
More important than a title's appearance is what it represents for the men fighting over it. You really let me down tonight, Brooklyn.

There is currently no word on what plans the WWE has for the vacated title, though one would have to imagine Rollins has to be involved in some sort of face.t
Other potential candidates on the Monday night roster are former WWE Champion Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens or Cesaro – though the WWE has been reluctant to provide any one of those names with a considerable push since the brand split.
